What Bosch E15 error means on your refrigerator
The Bosch E15 error indicates a fault with the ambient temperature sensor — the sensor that monitors the room temperature around the refrigerator. The refrigerator uses ambient temperature data to adjust compressor speed, defrost timing, and fan operation. Without accurate ambient readings, the unit cannot optimize its cooling strategy for the environment it’s operating in. On many Bosch models, this sensor is integrated into the display control module.
Symptoms
- E15 appears on the display panel
- The refrigerator may still cool but inefficiently — running too much in cool environments or not enough in warm ones
- The compressor may cycle more frequently than normal

Common causes
- Display control module failure — the ambient sensor is built into the display module, and when the module fails, the sensor goes with it
- Sensor wire damage — if the ambient sensor is a separate component, its wiring can be damaged during installation or by contact with the wall behind the unit
- Extreme ambient temperature — operating the refrigerator in a garage or unheated space outside its designed range (typically 55°F–110°F / 13°C–43°C) can produce readings the board flags as a sensor fault
