What Bosch E02 error means on your dryer
The Bosch E02 error code indicates that the fluff filter is clogged with lint and needs cleaning. The dryer monitors airflow through the lint screen and triggers E02 when resistance exceeds the threshold. A clogged filter forces the dryer to work harder, extends drying times, and increases the risk of overheating. This is the most common Bosch dryer error and is entirely user-serviceable.
Symptoms
- Drying cycles take significantly longer than normal
- Clothes come out damp or only partially dry
- The dryer feels unusually hot on the outside
- E02 appears on the display during or after a cycle
Common causes
- Lint accumulation — the filter hasn’t been cleaned after recent cycles
- Fabric softener residue — dryer sheets and liquid softener leave a waxy film on the filter mesh that traps lint more aggressively and reduces airflow even when the filter looks clean
- Filter not seated properly — a filter that isn’t fully inserted can’t seal against the housing, allowing lint to bypass and accumulate in the exhaust
Troubleshooting steps you can try
- Remove and clean the filter — pull the filter out, peel off the lint layer, and rinse under warm running water. Use a soft brush to scrub off any fabric softener residue. Let it dry completely before reinstalling.
- Clean the filter housing — use a vacuum with a narrow attachment to clean inside the filter slot where lint accumulates below the screen.
- Check the exhaust vent — a clogged vent behind the dryer causes the same symptoms. Disconnect the vent hose and check for lint blockage. See Bosch dryer support for vent maintenance guidelines.
When to call a technician
E02 is a maintenance code, not a component failure. If E02 persists after cleaning both the filter and the exhaust vent, the airflow sensor itself may be faulty. Schedule a Bosch technician if the error won’t clear after thorough cleaning. Our Bosch dryer repair team can diagnose sensor issues and check for vent blockages inside the dryer cabinet. See all Bosch dryer error codes for related diagnostics.
